Little Known Fact

In 1998, eight times a week on Broadway, Tyley Ross and Welly Yang played Chris and Thuy, mortal enemies in Miss Saigon. Today, they are playing life-long partners Simon and Wai-Tung, in the world premiere production of THE WEDDING BANQUET in Taiwan, Singapore, and Seattle!

Behind the Scenes: The Wedding Banquet - An Update!

The show will open in Taipei in just two weeks. How is it looking you wonder? Well, according to Welly Yang, founder and artistic director of Second Generation, who will star in the role of Wei-Tung, The Wedding Banquet "is the most ambitious project 2g has ever taken on. [The show] is funny as hell and poignant as hell." And why shouldn't it be? []

Meet the Artist: Steve Park - Comedian At Large

You may have seen him on Mad About You, Friends, or Fargo. Or maybe you remember his starring role on In Living Color. Perhaps you've stopped by The Karaoke Show recently. No matter where you've seen him, Steve Park has always been a funny guy. To you, that is. But Steve hardly considers himself a natural comedian or born actor. He thought about being a doctor, hated doing stand-up routines, and wrote an open letter to Hollywood condemning racism in the industry. Whatever you've thought of Steve Park before, know now that he is not just your average comedian. [].

FAQ
Q: How did the idea for Concert of Excellence come about?
Welly Yang, Second Generation Founder and Artistic Director, originated Concert of Excellence (COE) in order to provide deserved recognition to leading artists of Asian heritage. "At the same time, it also inspires a new generation of theater artists and provides crucial funds for Second Generation to give voice to that new generation and enable our vibrant stories to reach the world," says Welly.

Each year, these individuals have been recognized with the Remy Martin X.O Excellence Award. Previous honorees include Oscar-winning composer Tan Dun, Golden Globe nominated director Shekhar Kapur (Elizabeth and the upcoming Phantom of the Opera), platinum recording artist Coco Lee, Jason Scott Lee, and director Zhang Yi Mou (Raise the Red Lantern, Hero).

The first was held in 2001 at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall. The second year was another sold-out extravaganza, this time at Carnegie Hall. The third COE promises to be yet another star-studded celebration. Mark your calendar - December 1, 2003 at Lincoln Center's State Theater.
