Dear 2g Friend,

We hope you have been enjoying this glorious summer; like the weather, things at Second Generation (2g) are heating up! We would like to thank each and every one of you again for the support that made the Third Annual Concert of Excellence last year a truly rewarding event for 2g and our community at large.

Welly Yang congratulates our 2003 Remy X.O Excellence Award recipients
Jadin Wong, Lou Diamond Phillips, Bai Ling, and B.D. Wong.

Our 2004-2005 season at 2g is rolling in fast and furious. We are already planning for this year’s Concert of Excellence, which promises to be an even more spectacular event than last year’s. COE 2004 will be held in the highly anticipated Jazz at Lincoln Center space in the sparkling new Time Warner Center. Second Generation will be one of the first organizations to hold an event in this magnificent venue. So save the date of November 22, 2004 when the Fourth Annual Concert of Excellence will again be a night to celebrate Asian American performers and the community.

Making Tracks, the musical that first put Second Generation on the map, will be making its long-awaited return in its California premiere next spring. It will run at the San Jose Repertory Theatre from March 19 through April 17th, 2005. Making Tracks is a rock musical that tells the story of six generations of an Asian American family, spanning the mid 1800s to present day. Be sure to rally up your West Coast friends to catch this original piece of musical theater. And then, Making Tracks will be coming to… New York City!

For all of the NY folks who have supported and loved the piece from the Taipei Theater days in 1999 and those who have heard the music since, we are thrilled to announce that Making Tracks will open in New York on April 27th 2005-April 30th 2005 for a limited engagement at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

WE’RE GROWING

2g is growing and tackling even bigger projects. We have just been awarded two major grants for our continued growth—Theater Communications Group’s (TCG) New Generations grant on behalf of the Doris Duke Foundation and National Endowment for the Arts’s (NEA) grant to support Making Tracks. 2g will continue to host readings and other special events later this summer and throughout the fall. Be sure to stay tuned for more updates!
