benefit[0]='
Unfinished Dreams was a living remembrance of the 2-28 Massacre in Taiwan, where thousands of voices were brutally silenced on February 28, 1947 for speaking out against political, social, and economic oppression. We sought to honor the sacrifices of those over 20,000 lives through a diverse performance consisting of theater, modern dance, Taiwanese folk music, Western classical music, Broadway song, and visual art. At the same time, we were intent on educating the Taiwanese-American and New York cultural communities about this dark past so that the world would not forget; because to do so would be to let brutality triumph and to invite a tragic repeat in history.

The evening played to an enthusiastic 700-seat sold-out house and marked the world premieres of several significant dance pieces, including "Before I Kiss the Sky" and "The Outsider." An excerpt from Peabody Fellow Dmae Roberts’ play "Mei-Mei" also received its New York premiere at this performance. While artistically progressive and diverse, "Unfinished Dreams" was also culturally diverse, including over twenty performers from the Asian American, African American, and Jewish American cultures, among others. This inclusiveness reinforced "Unfinished Dreams" themes of universality, healing, and looking towards the future.

The performance was produced/directed by Welly Yang and choreographed by Wenndy Ching-Wen Yeh.

';
